Diablo 4 is currently out next year, but that’s all we can say for sure, for now. Recently, two reputable sources suggested that Blizzard could be aiming for a release date for the game in April 2023, with a full announcement coming to The Game Awards 2022 in December. While it’s not an official confirmation, it’s at least useful to have a starting point for when we can expect the next installment of Blizzard’s popular action / RPG franchise.
Central Windows and the XboxEra Podcast, both reputable entities in the gaming sphere, have heard about the Diablo 4 release date from supposedly reliable sources. While that doesn’t mean the game is set in stone for April 2023, it’s a tighter release window than we currently have. At the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase in June, Blizzard said Diablo 4 would be out in 2023, but didn’t specify anything else.
The same sources also hinted that Diablo 4 would have a big presence at this year’s Game Awards, where Blizzard would officially reveal the April 2023 release date. Presumably pre-orders would open during that time as well and a perk for pre-order would be. access to the Diablo 4 open beta in February 2023.
As with any game rumor, it’s best to consider it a possibility rather than an absolute fact. While this information is accurate at this time, Blizzard may still change its mind between now and next month or between next month and April. Game release schedules have changed tremendously since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and delays in games are a common occurrence. Also, Diablo 4 is supposed to have been in development since 2014. If fans have already waited eight years, Blizzard may take a few more months to get the game ready.
Thanks to the extensive trailers and developer diaries, we already know quite a lot about Diablo 4. We know that the game will contain five classes from previous games; we know it will take place in an open world; we know there will be a multiplayer-focused endgame. We also know it will have microtransactions, but hopefully not to the same extent as the widely monetized Diablo Immortal.
In fact, if you absolutely can’t wait until April 2023 (hopefully) to get the Diablo fix, Tom’s Guide recommended playing Diablo Immortal to pass the time. It’s a pretty good game, although it can get repetitive unless you’re willing to shell out some money to level up faster. Hopefully Diablo 4 will be a full paid game with a better pace.
