The Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royon, clarified that Edesur’s intervention “is not a nationalization” of the electricity distributor, but responds to an “immediate need” to address the claims of users in the face of constant and prolonged power outages in his area, but stated that “if the situation persists, the removal of the concession will proceed.”
In statements by Télam Radio and Radio 10, Royon explained that it was necessary to carry out “immediate action” on Edesur’s operations, adding that the administrative intervention for 180 days will allow the Government to “verify and control the investment plan and monitor compliance of the works and improvements in the service”.
“We must try to improve the quality of service, we know that it will not be a solution from one day to the next”said the official, who nevertheless warned that if Edesur continues to fail to provide services, the Government will move forward with the lifting of the concession.
“The operation is still headed by the company, but it allows us to have better control, especially now that winter is coming so that we can act more quickly and be able to verify and control the investment plan”
The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, announced the 180-day intervention of Edesur “for the purpose of monitoring compliance with the works and improving the service” that it must provide in its concession area of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area ( BOTH).
In this regard, Royon clarified that “as the figure allows, the legal framework that is administrative intervention does not affect the ownership of the company.”
“The operation is still headed by the company, but it allows us to have better control, especially now that winter is coming to be able to act more quickly and be able to verify and control the investment plan,” said Royon, who expressed: “We need immediate action, users have to have the service”.
In this sense, he considered that “the action taken by the minister is to be one step ahead of what is happening.”
He also stressed that “it is important that people make claims in order to receive the corresponding compensation,” and stressed that Edesur’s rates must go “directly to the works.”
This intervention for 180 days, which will have the task of supervising, controlling and monitoring the execution of the works for the improvement of the service, will be carried out by the mayor of Avellaneda and former Minister of Territorial Development of the Nation, Jorge Ferraresi, from this Tuesday.
