The lack of stock of PlayStation 5 could have its days numbered. “For all those people who want a PS5 it will be much easier to find one in stores around the world from now on,” said the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, during the Japanese company’s conference at the CES consumer electronics show taking place this week in Las Vegas.

These statements come more than two years after the launch of PS5 at the end of 2020. Precisely, during the event the executive also announced that the console already accumulates sales of 30 million units worldwide, a more than considerable figure according to of the lack of stock that this product has experienced since its departure.

Without going any further, during the Christmas campaign that ends today on Three Kings Eve, it has been practically impossible to get a PS5 in Spain without paying a price higher than the recommended retail price due to the ubiquitous packs that include other games and accessories together with the console. Thus, despite the fact that PS5 has a recommended price of 549.99 euros, the most common thing in recent weeks has been to see it available only in packs whose prices have been able to reach around 800 and 900 euros.
Despite this situation, Ryan has announced that this past month of December has been the one that has sold the most PS5 since its launch, coinciding with the improvement in supply that the device has experienced at the end of the year.
Good figures, despite the lack of stock
The CEO of Sony’s video game division has thanked the patience of those people who have been waiting for a long time to get a PS5. “We have had to manage unprecedented demand amid global challenges for the past two years,” Ryan said.
Although PS5 is still a long way from the figures achieved by the rest of the brand’s consoles, its sales are increasing at a good pace. For example, PS5 has gone from 20 to 30 million consoles sold faster than PS4.

Sony’s next-generation console is selling more every day, also despite the unpopular measure that led the company to raise the price of the console by 50 euros in various markets due to inflation. The announcement took place last August and set a precedent, since never before had a console manufacturer raised the price of this type of product in such a large market.
During the press conference at CES in Las Vegas, Sony also announced Project Leonardo, a new controller for PS5 focused on accessibility, as well as the fact that Gran Turismo 7 will be compatible with PlayStation VR2 at launch.
