Tourism once again set a record this year, with the highest hotel occupancy for October with 4.2 million overnight stays in different accommodations in the country, which represent the best figures of the last fifteen years, according to measurements released this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec).
Given this, the Minister of Tourism of the Nation, Matías Lammenspointed out that “thanks to the impact of the program Pre-Tripwe are ending a historic year for tourism, where we did not have a ‘low season’ in our destinations.”
According to Hotel Occupancy Survey (EOH) prepared by INDEC, in October 2022, coinciding with the third edition of PreViaje “4.2 million overnight stays were registered in Argentine accommodation, a growth of 48% compared to the previous year”.
These figures, according to the survey, represent the highest values for that month since 2007, the year in which the survey began.
The report also estimated that there were 1.5 million resident travelers staying in accommodations, another record number for October, with very good levels in destinations throughout the country, such as Cafayate, Puerto Iguazú, Villa General Belgrano, Mar del Plata, Mendoza, San Carlos de Bariloche, Puerto Madryn, El Calafate or Ushuaia.

The 3-star establishments, boutiques and apartments concentrated the greatest number of overnight stays, with a rate of occupancy of beds of 42.7%, followed by 4 and 5-star hotels, which showed an occupancy of 51% of the available beds.
The record for overnight stays coincides with the Monthly Estimator of Economic Activity (EMAE) for October, where “hotels and restaurants” was the sector with the highest year-on-year growth (27%), the report added.
Meanwhile, the hotel-gastronomic sector also led the latest report from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security on registered employment growth (25% interannual).
Lammens pointed out that in this “historic year for tourism, where we did not have a ‘low season'” now arises “the great challenge of recovering the pre-pandemic figures for incoming tourism.”
“We are going to live a great 2023 in which our activity will continue to create more and more jobs throughout the country”narrowed.
According to official information, more than a million tourists enjoyed a getaway with PreViaje and agreed to a 50% refund of expenses during the last quarter of the year.
The Ministry of Tourism indicated that in its three editions, the program generated 54,000 jobs, with an impact close to 200 billion pesos for regional economies.
