The CBCat (Blockchain Center of Catalonia), of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, and the Badalona City Council, have presented the CBCat Energy Node, the new sub-headquarters of the technology center, specialized in the application of blockchain in the energy sector . This node will have its own team, and will be located in the BCIN (Badalona International Business Center).
“Energy in general, but especially renewable energies, is a sector in which decentralized technologies are already proving to have a great impact,” said Quirze Salomó, executive director of the CBCat. “The disruption provided by new technologies is absolutely necessary in a situation of climate emergency and market instability such as the one we are experiencing today,” he stated.

Àlex Montornès, First Deputy Mayor, stated that the installation in Badalona of this branch of the CBCat “is important for the city and for the country as a whole, at a time when the debate on the energy model is strategic; offering opportunities for the productive fabric of our municipality and for citizens”. “In fact, we are already seeing it with the pilot test to create an energy community in the Les Guixeres industrial estate, which will help our companies to rationalize electricity consumption and become more sustainable and competitive,” he added.
During the presentation, the first initiative that this branch is working on was also exposed: the Narcís Xifra Forum, an international observatory that has the objective of observing and collecting projects from all over the world that link blockchain technology and renewable energies. The Forum aims to promote debate and mutual learning based on the experiences gathered, and become a speaker for Catalan companies and projects that are pioneers in the use of blockchain applied to energy.

In the presentation, the use cases of two companies that have successfully applied this technology in the energy sector have already been heard first-hand. On the one hand, Electra Caldense has presented a pilot of the Flexenergy project, developed in Caldes de Montbui, where they have created a completely digitized energy community that allows exchanges between individuals thanks to the EnergyWeb Foundation blog chain. For its part, Bamboo Energy has presented an energy optimization platform based on artificial intelligence.
Additionally, both companies have jointly informed the attendees of ElectroFlex, an initiative that they are developing in collaboration, and that will allow the use of the flexible capacity of the assets connected to their electricity distribution network, through blockchain technology.
Diffusion and digital literacy
The CBCat (Blockchain Center of Catalonia), of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and promoted by the Generalitat, aims to promote the adoption of digital assets and decentralized technologies (DLTs) in Catalonia through dissemination and digital literacy, not only among all and each of the industrial sectors but also, and without exception, between those actors, individual or collective, private or institutional, potentially involved. Promotes, explains and educates about blockchain technology, current application cases and future possibilities.
