The video game world is in mourning. Game designer Leonid Stepanov has announced through his Twitter account the death of a well-known Ukrainian animator while fighting Russian troops in Ukraine. His name was Andrii Korzinkin and he made a name for himself in the world of animation after participating in the development of Metro Exodus. Specifically, he was responsible for the animation of various characters and scenes of the popular video game.
Andrii Korzinkin worked for 4A Games before joining Remedy Entertainment, one of the world’s most popular video game developers. After Stepanov’s announcement, social networks have been filled with messages of condolence and outrage at the human losses caused by the war that Putin started against Ukraine last February.

Korzinkin voluntarily enlisted in the Ukrainian army to fight against Russian troops in a war started nine months ago by Putin. Unfortunately, Korzinkin, like many of his teammates, will not be coming home when this is all over. As confirmed by Leonid Stepanov through his Twitter account, the Ukrainian animator died in combat a few weeks ago.
“Andrii Korzinkin has died while performing a combat mission in the struggle for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Stepanov tweeted. “A talented animator, an amazing person and a true hero. Rest in peace, friend. We all miss you,” finished Stepanov, who worked with Korzinkin at 4A Games.

Korzinkin was a well-known Ukrainian animator who made a name for himself in the video game industry after collaborating on the animation of characters and scenes for the game Metro Exodus. After passing through 4A Games, the young animator signed for Remedy Entertainment. Previously, he worked at Pixelation, where he helped develop the television series Angel Baby.
Speaking to the specialized media PC Gamer, Stepanov comments that Korzinkin had “amazing skills.” “I was very impressed with her kind nature and her desire to always help,” says her former co-worker, who learned of the sad news through a mutual friend’s LinkedIn post.
Impact on the video game industry
Stepanov is not alone in mourning Korzinkin’s death. Numerous people from the world of animation have expressed their condolences through social networks for the death of the Ukrainian animator.
Serhii Krystiev, another well-known Ukrainian animator, mourned the death of his colleague on Twitter: “I have no words to describe this loss. He was a person I always wanted to be like as a professional. Rest in peace, friend.”
4A Games, which moved its headquarters to Malta in 2014 after the first Russian invasion of Ukraine, has also mourned the death of Korzinkin, who worked for several years at the company as an animator. “Today we mourn the death of 4A Games animator Andrii ‘Nizrok’ Korzinkin, who was killed in action on September 24 while defending his country near the town of Mykolaiv. He was buried with honors as one of Ukraine’s many heroes.” , tweeted 4A Games.
