Who are Sweden’s biggest e-sports profiles? Most people know who Peter Forsberg was. Björn Borg, Ingemar Stenmark and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as well. And who can forget Börje Salming? But is it just as easy to keep track of which e-sports profiles exist and have existed in Sweden?
What is eSports?
First of all, it is important to keep track of what e-sports actually means. Depending on which generation you belong to, the knowledge of e-sports can vary greatly. For the younger generation, some esports profiles – YouTubers and influencers included – may be as big as some of the esports legends were for the older generation.
What is good to keep in mind is that sport is not a word you should stare blindly at in this context. Too many people think of sports as the classic sports, i.e. football, hockey, tennis and so on.
But in this case, sport refers only to the competitive aspect. Although there are plenty of eSports players who practice eFootball, eHockey, eBasketball and much more. No, instead it is the new “shooter games” such as CS and Call of Duty games that are popular in the world of e-sports.
Who are Sweden’s biggest e-sports profiles?
Here comes a list of some of the absolute most popular e-sports players. The list itself is not based on any particular ranking and contains both active and inactive players.
”HeatoN”. Emil Christensen.
For those who remember the discussions before the Champions of Champions season 2017, they probably also remember HeatoN, without thinking about him. At least he was the e-sports player who got to participate, something that created heated debate around the country. No matter what, Emil “HeatoN” Christensen is considered to be perhaps the best e-sports player of all time in Sweden. He was a giant in the very popular game CS:GO and was an inspiration to many upcoming players.
“Armada”. Adam Lindgren.
It may be hard to imagine, but the fact is that it is possible to become a pro at Super Mario. Ask Adam Lindgren, better known as Armada, if you don’t believe it. Because Adam has made a career in Super Mario Bros. In addition to being a giant in Sweden, he also competed internationally, where he took home titles that place him among some of the best to ever play Super Mario Bros.
“Rekkles”. Martin Larsson.
When people hear about “lol” they think of the abbreviation “Laughing Out Loud”. But if you hear LoL instead, more people will probably think of League of Legends. This somewhat incredibly popular computer game has long been dominated by players from Asia. But Martin Larsson is one of the Swedes who did it best, from all over the world, moreover.
“Loda”. Jonathan Berg.
As I said, League of Legends is a popular game. A game that is very similar to it, and according to many is more popular than LoL, is Dota 2. It is played in a similar way, and one that has done it well is “Loda”. He was part of Alliance, which for a few years dominated the Dota 2 scene and therefore gave the game an extra good reputation within the Swedish borders.
