Messi and Martino in the Argentine national team.
Argentine Gerardo Martino, brand new manager of Inter Miami, assured today that both Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets “will not afford not to compete” in the United States MLS.
“One is world champion and the other in the Spanish league. They are not going to afford not to compete. It is in their blood,” Martino said at the press conference he gave today after being made official as the new coach of Intermiami.
“Those of us who are used to competing permanently can be in different places and there is only one way to carry out the race. Yesterday I spoke with Sergio and when I did it with Messi, we talked about having success and competing well,” added the
“Tata”, who dismissed the idea of relating MLS to a “vacation”.
“I am in love with MLS, with the way of competing, with the evolution of the league, with the evolution of the teams and Inter (Miami) gave me an opportunity to be there.”

“This happens to us on a personal level. Perhaps the United States and Miami are associated with ‘holidays’ and it’s not that,” said the Rosario who will have his second experience in MLS, with which he considered himself “in love.”
“This opportunity seemed attractive to me and I had the dream of replicating the experience of Atlanta United,” said Martino, who revealed that he began talks with the club before Messi’s incorporation was known. “The gifts came later,” he joked.

Despite the team’s difficult position in the Eastern conference, Martino pointed out that they will try to reach the playoffs but they also have the Open Cup semifinals and the new Leagues Cup ahead.
“The challenge is to assemble the team between the end of the season and the beginning of 2024,” he added.
Martino was introduced by sports director, Chris Henderson.
