Boca Juniors, in a strange context, with an interim coach like Mariano Herrón, although with the conviction of always being the protagonist, will begin its path in the Copa Libertadores this Thursday as a visitor to Monagas Sport Club, in Venezuela, in a match for the Group F.
the meeting will be played from 9:00 p.m. in the city of Maturínlocated 500 kilometers from Caracas, will be refereed by the Brazilian Wilton Sampaio and televised by Fox Sports.
Group F began this Wednesday night in Colombia with a 1-1 draw between the local Deportivo Pereira and Colo Colo, from Chile.
Boca was crowned six times champion of the Libertadores and will start the tournament that reveals him with a complicated present. A week ago Hugo Ibarra was fired from the technical direction, and was replaced by Herrón, who left the Reserve division, led the team against Barracas Central and achieved a 3-0 win in the Professional League (LPF).
Although several names are mentioned to succeed Ibarra, in a management carried out solely by Riquelme, the good impression left by Herrón and the positive responses to Barracas Central from several players who were at a very low level, meant that there is no rush to find to the new coach.
Herrón will direct in the Libertadores and also on Sunday against Colón for the domestic tournament, in a role that he fulfilled in the 2020 edition of the main club tournament in South America.
Boca should not be surprised by Monagas, a team that is presumed to be the weakest in the group, with Colo Colo being the main rivals to beat to pass the phase and Pereira in second place.
Monagas, directed by Jhonny Herrera, lost last Friday with Carabobo by a comprehensive 3-0 in a match valid for the eighth date of the Venezuelan First Division League (Futve) and does not have scary players of hierarchy.
