The Senate approved the federal intervention of the security of Brasilia
The Brazilian Congress approved on Tuesday the federal intervention of the security forces of Brasilia decreed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva after the assault on the headquarters of the three powers on Sunday, while the justice system ordered the arrest of the then person in charge of the military police of the Federal District (DF) and the Secretary of Security, Anderson Torres, and the Prosecutor’s Office requested the blockade of assets of former president Jair Bolsonaro and other former officials.
The Senate gave the green light on Tuesday to Lula’s intervention decree, which will be in force until the end of January, with the vote against by eight legislators who respond to Bolsonaro, one day after the endorsement given by the Chamber of Deputies.
“This anti-democratic minority does not represent the Brazilian people. This coup minority will not impose its will through barbarism, force and criminal acts,” declared the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pachecoreported Europa Press.
The only two benches of Deputies that abstained from voting were those of the Liberal Party (PL), Bolsonaro’s formation, and the liberals of Partido Novo.

In an interview with CNN Brasil, Cappelli stated that Torres, who was Bolsonaro’s Justice Minister, took office on January 2 and changed the entire command and then went on vacation to the United States, where the former president is.
“On January 2, Anderson Torres assumed the Secretary of Security, dismissed the entire command and traveled. If this isn’t sabotage, I don’t know what is,” he said.
The official, appointed by the president to assume public security in the DF, argued that “what was missing on Sunday was the direction of the Secretary of Security.”
In this context, the parliamentary benches of the Workers’ Party (PT) and the Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL) in the Chamber of Deputies requested the STF to investigate congressmen for the anti-democratic acts last Sunday.
In parallel, other complaints were made to the regional electoral courts and to the ethics councils of Congress.
Previously, the leader of the Government in Congress, Senator Randolfe Rodrigues had advanced that all congressmen who participated in the anti-democratic acts would be investigated.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Justice of Brazil, Flávio Dino, reported that those responsible for transferring to Brasilia participants in the attempted coup perpetrated on Sunday by Bolsonarists have already been identified.
