President Alberto Fernández stated on Sunday afternoon that “those who rose up against democracy and those who financed” that movement in Brazil “must be punished” and sent his support to the Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who decreed this Sunday the federal intervention of the security organizations in Brasilia after supporters of his predecessor Jair Bolsonaro tried to carry out a coup.

“Democracy must be respected, those who promote an uprising against democracy and finance those uprisings must be punished. They cannot go unpunished,” Fernández said in an interview with a Brazilian TV channel.
And he exemplified: “We have experienced it in Argentina with those responsible for the last dictatorship and more recently in Bolivia with the de facto president Jeanine Áñez.”
“The events that we saw today we know that they are not generated from nothing. Mobilizing this amount of people and seeing the amount is only possible with the consent of power. Such a mobilization is only possible with someone who supports that and it seems to me that this is investigate and sanction is healthy for the Republic,” he said on the BandNews chain.

He further stated that during “the years of (Jair) Bolsonaro’s presidency” Brazil “was far from the concert of nations.”
“His voice disappeared from the G20 and Mercosur. He was absent from international forums,” he added.
In addition, the Argentine head of state underlined his support for President Lula who “must tell me what he needs and I will be by his side.”
