French striker Antoine Griezmann signed a new contract with Atlético de Madrid until June 30, 2026 and was released from the clause with the Barcelona club, which did not allow him to play every minute.
Both clubs reported that they reached an agreement for the transfer of Griezmann, who had returned to the “colchonero” on loan from the “Blaugrana”.
For this reason, DT Diego Simeone had not been able to use the striker as he intended, since a clause was in force for the minutes played that implied a payment of 40 million euros at the end of this season.
Now, With the new agreement, the “Colchonero” will pay half of that sum to Barcelona to keep the entire file of the French footballerwho in turn signed a new link with a salary reduction, according to the sports newspaper Marca.
“Happy to be where I want to be. Thank you ALL! Aupa Atleti!” Griezmann wrote on his Twitter account.
The Frenchman already has 304 official matches at Atlético de Madrid with 144 goals and 59 assists and with those numbers he is already the fourth highest scorer in the club’s history.
